Hi, I’m Sylvester, a designer based in Eastbourne.

I’m Sylvester Wilmott, a Senior Product Designer and Product Engineer with over a decade of experience. I created Screen RulerScreen RulerA Chrome extension for measuring spacing, inspecting styles, and editing live webpages., a Chrome extension used by 60,000+ designers and developers to measure, inspect, and edit webpages.

I’m currently at AutomatticAutomatticThe software company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, and Day One., where I work on Day OneDay OneA journaling app for recording daily life, saving memories, and reflecting on past entries., the leading journaling app. I lead the design and development of AI chat, alongside features that help people build a journaling habit.

I like working out how something should work, then building it myself. Writing the code often changes what I thought was a good design. I enjoy going back and forth until it feels right.

Editor — Day One

I redesigned and rebuilt Day One’s Android editor with one developer in a month. We brought it in line with Material 3, reworked formatting and attachments, and added voice commands for hands-free editing.

Icons — Day One

I designed and built Day One’s icon library and the tools to ship it across platforms. Designers can find and copy icons for Figma, while a single build generates the font and code for each app.
